Sustainable Manufacturing

For 15 years we have been making patterns, samples and doing production for both start up and established designers. Over the past decade there has been an increase of demand in UK based manufacturing. This has been brought about for the following reasons:

  • More control of the manufacturing process

  • Sustainability
  • Supporting the UK economy

  • Reduced need to produce with international factories that have large minimum order requirements.

We provide a sustainable manufacturing service with a range of partners who are all based within the UK. We make all items within our London studio and do not outsource. We believe in the 8 stages of manufacturing in order to bring your vision to life.

Please get in touch to receive a quote. We would need you to supply images of all styles in order to give you a provisional quote. Our production prices are provisional and are only confirmed once the sample is completed.

8 Stages of creating your collection

Garment Tech Pack

Stage one is the tech pack which I always quote as the architectural drawings of a house but for a garment. It’s vital to have a tech pack before the project proceeds with any factory, sample maker or Pattern Cutter.

Fabric Sourcing

Stage two would be fabric sourcing. Now that you’ve got the design and the tech pack done, you should have an idea of what kind of fabrics you want to use for the design so the fabric searching process can start. Bear in mind, this can take a while so it’s better better to get going as early as possible within the project

Sizing Chart

Stage three is the size process and this is where you need to have an understanding of what the sizes are that you want to create the first samples. Each brand has the right to create their own rules as to what constitutes a small medium large, 8,10 and 12 but you can decide ultimately. The easiest way is to use an existing garment from another brand as a fit reference.

Pattern Cutting

Stage four is the pattern cutting. Once you decide what size you want to make the garment in,  you would create the pattern pieces which are the jigsaw pieces for anyone design in the relevant size for the garment.

Toile/Mock Up

Stage five is the only optional stage out of all of them although it is strongly advisable to do one. This is called making a mark up or a toile. This would basically be the first version of the concept in a fabric that has similar properties but cheaper in price to the one that you wanna use for your final sample. Once the toile has been made then you can do your fit session and then feedback to the Pattern Cutter what fit changes you want to make to the design.

Sampling

Stage six is the final sample and this is simply a representation of how you’d want the final product to look when it’s in the hands of the customer. This includes correct fabric choice, cut correct trims, correct printing, correct embroidery and further down the line the factory the production process will copy how the sample has been made.

Grading

Stage seven once the final sample has been signed off then you can proceed to the grading which is the process of converting the master pattern let’s say it’s in a medium to the other sizes be an excess and a small, large and so forth. Essentially, all the sizes that you wanna do for production.

Production

Stage eight is where you would have finalised the final version of the tech pack and then you can proceed with ordering all the relevant fabric and trims to start the production process.
